Storm remnants expected to hit Louisville

Storm remnants expected to hit Louisville

Scattered storms and strong winds moved into the Louisville area on Tuesday, marking the start of a wet season ahead of the forecast. More moisture is expected in the region due to a weakening tropical depression that is expected to make landfall later this week.

The National Weather Service is forecasting strong to severe storms for Tuesday afternoon and evening, with damaging winds likely. Similar conditions are forecast throughout the week. Here's what we know.

“Active Weather Week” for regions in Kentucky

The NWS describes the week as “active weather” for Louisville and the surrounding area, with damaging winds and possible hail. A brief tornado “cannot be ruled out.” Periods of rain are forecast daily before a “weakening tropical system” arrives in Bluegrass on Friday. Widespread rain is expected throughout the day as the system moves through the region.

NWS officials said rains in the coming days would “help alleviate the ongoing drought,” but localized flooding was possible later this week.

The agency said the Storm Prediction Center also issued a Level 2 slight threat of severe weather for parts of central Kentucky.
