Ken Hicks has been named PetSmart's new president and CEO.

PetSmart has named Ken Hicks president and CEO, effective October 31. He will also serve on the company's board of directors. He replaces JK Symancyk who resigned in September.

Previously CEO and Chairman of the Board of Directors at Academy Sports + OutdoorHicks is a veteran of the retail landscape, having worked for Foot Locker. JCPenneyHope Shopping Network and May Department Store among others.

He is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point and served in the United States Army. He also earned an MBA from Harvard Business School.

Alan Schnaid, who served as interim CEO, will continue in his important leadership role as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer.
