Mets rookie and younger brother of Ronald Acuna Jr. reveals who his family is rooting for in the decisive series

In Atlanta, it already feels like the postseason.

The New York Mets are in Georgia to face their NL East rivals, the Braves, and the stakes are high.

It's about getting into the postseason, and for the Mets it's simple: If they win the series, they can play in October.

The Mets added rookie shortstop Luisangel Acuna, the younger brother of Braves superstar outfielder Ronald Acuna Jr., to their lineup this season.

The infielder told reporters that about 15 family members were in town for Tuesday night's game and that the family was rooting for the game.

“Me. My brother doesn't play,” he said through an interpreter.

The older brother, the reigning National League MVP, suffered a season-ending ACL tear earlier this year. It's the same injury he suffered in 2021, but Atlanta won the World Series that year.

Going into the series, the Mets are two games ahead of Atlanta, and the season series is tied at five games, so if the Mets win those three games, it would ensure that Atlanta cannot overtake them in the standings. New York is 87-69, while the Braves are 85-71.

Two years ago, the Mets and Braves were in a similar situation. Although both teams had already secured postseason berths when they met in late September, the division title was on the line. The Braves swept New York and sent the Mets to the wild-card round, where they lost.

The latest series may experience weather-related delays due to an expected rainstorm hitting the Southeast on Wednesday and Thursday.

A contingency plan has not yet been announced, but options could include a doubleheader on Monday or moving the series to another site.
