The Rams are dangling Cooper Kupp on the trading block as a telling sign

Cooper Kupp could be on the way.

According to The Athletic, the Rams have “called multiple teams” to discuss the idea of trading the star wide receiver.

The report added that the team “has signaled a willingness to take on a portion of 24's salary and is pursuing a second-round pick.”

Kupp suffered a severe ankle sprain in the Rams' second game of the season against the Cardinals on September 15.

He has been out since then but is expected to return for Thursday's team game against the Vikings after fully participating in practice on Monday.

Speaking to reporters on Monday, Rams head coach Sean McVay was cautious about whether Kupp will see a limited load in this week's game.

“This will be something we'll feel better about as we put it together and really get into it, but we're definitely excited to have him back,” McVay said.

The best season of Kupp's career was 2021–22, when he led the NFL in receiving yards and touchdowns and won AP Offensive Player of the Year and Super Bowl MVP awards.

When healthy, the 31-year-old Kupp is still a dynamic threat.

In Week 1 this year, he caught 14 balls for 110 yards and a touchdown in an overtime loss to the Lions.

In that game, the Rams' other top opponent – Puka Nacua – suffered a knee injury and has not yet returned.

Those injuries have slowed a Rams offense that was explosive last season when they surprisingly made the playoffs.

The Rams are currently 2-4 and in last place in the NFC West. Even with a veteran at QB in Matthew Stafford, trading Kupp would be a clear signal that they are rebuilding for next season.

Competing teams that could use a top receiver include the Steelers, Ravens, Chiefs and Bucs.

The NFL trade deadline is November 5th at 4:00 p.m. ET.
