Wind, lower temperatures, rain expected in El Paso County

El Paso residents should do away with their outdoor Halloween decorations as more wind and rain are expected.

According to the National Weather Service, wind gusts could reach up to 39 miles per hour on Wednesday, October 16, while it will be windy the rest of the week.

Peak gusts are expected to remain slightly above or at 20 mph from Thursday, October 17th through Saturday, October 19th.

Surrounding counties in New Mexico may also experience strong winds, with gusts of 40 mph expected in Deming, Silver City and Truth or Consequences on Friday.

The active weather is part of a cold front pushing through the back door that will drop temperatures a few degrees below normal before returning to slightly above normal next week, according to the National Weather Service.

Friday, October 18th is expected to be the warmest of the week with a high of 82 degrees.

There is also a chance of rain forecast. Thursday, October 17th and Sunday, October 20th offer the best chance of rain in El Paso at 15%.

When will there be the first frost in El Paso?

While temperatures are expected to be above average, El Paso typically experiences its first frost in November – when the air temperature reaches 32 degrees.

The first fall frost in El Paso this year is expected to occur on Thursday, November 14, according to the Old Farmer's Almanac. The forecast matches the average first frost in El Paso.
