Rain and snow heading into Arizona brings the first day of alert this week

PHOENIX (AZFamily) – A beautiful morning in Phoenix as you step out the door with 60s and 70s vibes prevalent throughout the city.

Afternoon highs will again be below 100 degrees, reaching a high of around 98 degrees during the afternoon. Temperatures are expected to drop even further through Friday and Saturday, with highs expected to be in the upper 70s and lower 80s.

We are keeping an eye on a system that will bring good rain chances to the state late Thursday into Friday. We have a first weather alert day on Friday with about a 50% chance of seeing rain in Phoenix.

Not much rain is expected as the cold front pushes through Friday, but we will see gusty winds of 20-40 mph across southern and western Arizona.

This system is cold enough to bring snow to the mountains Friday night and into Saturday. Minimal snow accumulation is possible at approximately 6,000 feet, with several inches possible at approximately 8,000 feet. If you get up early and are traveling in the mountains, slippery roads could be a possibility.

The system will move fairly quickly, with sunshine and warmer temperatures returning to the state on Sunday. Next week in Phoenix we'll return to the 90s, but for now we should avoid the dreaded 100s.

I wish you a wonderful day!
