Alaska Airlines temporarily suspends flights in Seattle due to technical failure

LOS ANGELES — Alaska Airlines said it had temporarily suspended its flights in Seattle on Sunday evening due to “significant disruptions” caused by an unspecified technical problem. The problem was resolved by 10 p.m. local time.

In comments posted from his account on X to customers complaining about delays and issues with the airline's app and website, the airline apologized for the delays. It was later reported that the problem had been resolved. The exact reason for the disruptions was unclear.

“If you are traveling today, please check your flight status before heading to the airport. If your schedule allows, please change or cancel your flight,” the airline said in a statement on its homepage. “We apologize for the inconvenience and are working quickly to resolve the issue.”

It's been a rough few weeks for travelers passing through Seattle, a busy hub for Alaska Airlines and other major carriers.

Last week, the operator of Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, Alaska Airlines' main hub, said hackers were demanding $6 million in bitcoin for documents they stole during an August cyberattack and then posted on the dark web. The Port of Seattle, which owns and operates the airport, said it had chosen not to pay.

The airport is currently recovering from the attack, which began on August 24, a busy period before Labor Day weekend.
