Three LSU Tigers to watch in Saturday's matchup with Ole Miss

Three LSU Tigers to watch in Saturday's matchup with Ole Miss

The highly anticipated matchup between Ole Miss and LSU is fast approaching and the Rebels are looking for their first victory in Death Valley since 2008. While stats like these don't matter as much in college football's new landscape, it would be an it a weight will be lifted off the shoulders of Rebel fans if Ole Miss can get a win.

The 2024 LSU Tigers are not the 2023 LSU Tigers, an offense loaded with NFL talent, but they still have some dynamic playmakers who could exploit some of the Rebs' weaknesses.

With that said, let's take a look at three Tigers to watch in Saturday's game.

WR #2 Kyren Lacy

Lacy is a dynamic playmaker and Garrett Nussmeier's favorite target so far in 2024. He can beat you in many different ways and is very difficult to contain in space.

LSU will have to come up with some home run plays to get the football moving as the Rebels are the best run defense in the country. They struggled at times with penalties that Lacy often incurs, so the Ole Miss secondary needs to be on guard.

LB No. 40 Pentecost weeks

The term “warrior” is one of the best compliments you can give a football player, and when you watch Weeks play, you can see that he nails everything, shows toughness and plays with a certain edge.

With Harold Perkins out for the rest of the year, Weeks had to fill the NFL Draft prospect's shoes. Weeks plays hard and with reckless abandon, and the Rebels will have to account for him on every play as he can be difficult to contain at times.

Weeks is listed as questionable for Saturday's game, another major blow to the LSU defense if he is unable to participate. This injury report will be updated on Friday and then 90 minutes before kickoff on Saturday, so it will be interesting to follow Weeks' status.

RB #29 Caden Durham

The Rebels have done a pretty good job of stopping the run in 2024 so far, but for the Tigers to get going they're going to need it. Caden Durham is a very talented freshman from Duncanville HS in the Dallas area who the Tigers have used in the running back room due to injuries.

The Tigers can't expect to throw the ball all over the court as the Rebels also have the most sacks in the country. Therefore, Durham could be an important factor if they find a way to use him creatively. Look for this LSU offense to run some screens early to slow down the Rebels pass rush and get them going.
