Head coach Kyle Shanahan spoke to reporters after the San Francisco 49ers got a much-needed win over the Seattle Seahawks at Lumen Field and gave an update on the game's injuries.

Run back Jordan Mason left the game in the second quarter with a shoulder injury. He went to the locker room for an X-ray, returned briefly in the third quarter, but soon left and remained on the sideline.

“I remained available only in case of emergency,” Shanahan said. “…He thought he would be fine. He went back in and it was just hurting him too much, so he went out, I think that was the first play of the game, and then he was out (on the sideline) just in case. of an emergency.”

The 49ers will have more details on the severity of Mason's injury after further testing on Friday.

Shanahan mentioned that the team believes Mustapha suffered a lower ankle sprain, which is less severe than an upper ankle sprain.

A 49ers kicker was injured during a tackle on a kickoff return for the second straight game. Last Sunday, Jake Moody suffered a high ankle sprain against the Arizona Cardinals. On Thursday his successor, Matthew Wrightsuffered a shoulder injury.

Shanahan admitted he probably won't challenge kickers for tackles anymore.

“I don’t know what to think about it anymore,” Shanahan said. “If they break through and are the only line left, I would never be the coach to say, 'Just let them score.' But damn, it's been two weeks in a row… I just hope he's okay.

Tight end George Kittle appeared to be injured in the fourth quarter and briefly went to the locker room before returning to the game. When Kittle was asked about the trip, his response was lighthearted and evasive.

“I had to go to the bathroom,” he joked.

Asked if he was honest, Kittle replied: “I don’t know. Perhaps. Yeah, who knows?”

Cornerback Charvarius Wardwho suffered a bruised knee against the Cardinals, was listed as questionable. He was among seven inactive players for the 49ers against the Seahawks.

When asked how close Ward was to playing, Shanahan explained: “It was close enough that it was a game-time decision. He went and trained (in the pregame), and it was close, but couldn't go.”

Additionally left guard Aaron Banks suffered leg cramps during the game and was replaced in the lineup by Spencer Burford.
