James Carville urges Democrats to “sell harder” by leaving this issue alone

Longtime Democratic strategist James Carville called on his party to stop focusing on the 2020 election and the attack on the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, in an interview with MSNBC's “Morning Joe” on Wednesday.

“You have to sell harder,” said Carville, who appeared on the show in support of the upcoming documentary “Carville: Winning Is Everything, Stupid.”

Carville, a senior strategist for Bill Clinton's 1992 presidential campaign, noted “all this misinformation” from Republicans and said Democrats need to “selectively choose” what to focus on with less than a month before Election Day.

“We talked about Jan. 6 ad infinitum, ad nauseum,” he said. “We talked about who won the election. Leave it alone.”

Carville pointed out in a recent episode of his “Politics War Room” podcast with Al Hunt that Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio) repeated former President Donald Trump's claim that he tried to pass the Affordable Care Act while in office “save”.

“This is about a huge issue where there's a law that's important to people that has a huge bias for people to think that the Democrats are better,” Carville said on the podcast.

“That's a complete lie, OK, let me say it as clearly as I can, it's not even close. You can't say, 'Well, you can do it,' no… why doesn't Harris talk about it herself today?”

Similarly, he called on Democrats on Wednesday to investigate Vance's “massive lie.”

“If Bill Clinton wants to address the realities in every market, in every swing state, why – should Obama come out and say, 'How dare he say that about our health care plan?'” Carville suggested.
