Malik Nabers is out and Devin Singletary is questionable for Week 5 against the Seahawks

Malik Nabers is out and Devin Singletary is questionable for Week 5 against the Seahawks

Nabers will certainly be missed. His 35 receptions are five more than anyone else in the NFL, nine more than Robinson, second on the Giants, and the second-most in the first four career games by a player in the Super Bowl era. He already has the second-most balls in a player's first five games – and he's only played four. Nabers needs 11 catches in his next game to break the Puca Nacua Rams' record from last year. Given that Nabers caught 12 passes against the Cowboys last week, that's certainly possible.

Additionally, Nabers has at least five receptions in each of his first four games, tied for the fourth-longest streak to start a career since at least 1970. The record is held by CeeDee Lamb of Dallas with a six-game streak in 2020.

Singletary rushed for a team-high 221 yards on 56 carries and scored two touchdowns.

Without Nabers and Singletary, Robinson is expected to be the only player in uniform to score a Giants touchdown this season on Sunday.

“That’s why we have the other guys in the squad,” said Daboll. “Of course Malik is a talented player. Motor (Singletary's nickname) did a lot for us, but that's the NFL. Every team has to deal with injuries and you prepare the other guys that are running for them to go out and perform. “So we have a lot of confidence in the guys that are behind them and this is just an opportunity for them to go out and play at a high level.”

Nabers has missed just 24 of the Giants' 268 offensive shots this season.

“He’s very competitive,” Daboll said. “Of course he wants to be out there, but he is active in the meetings. We look at one-on-ones as a group with the quarterbacks and all the skill guys. It's a good lesson, but there's a good camaraderie there. He He kind of took the lead yesterday and got on the board. So he would love to be out there, but right now he can't be.

Daboll said Nabers has been working with the team's athletic trainers but was not on the practice field this week.

“I would say it's getting a little better every day, but not to the point where he can take the next step in the protocol for us,” Daboll said. “Again, you don’t want to force something like this. You want to make sure that any steps you take are very careful when it comes to concussions. So he's doing better. He's doing better. He takes part in the meetings and things like that. “He does a few things with the coaches inside and every day it has increased a little more.

Singletary will head to Seattle but didn't seem confident he'll be in the uniform.

“We’ll see,” he said. “Game day, game time, we’ll see. I think it will really be up to me. If I feel like I’m comfortable going, I’ll go there.”

Singletary said this is his first groin injury and he fears it will get worse.

“That’s part of it,” he said. “Especially a groin area. In any case, it can be difficult. So you should be smart.”

Singletary said he felt “pretty good” after working on the field today and wasn’t ready to pass up the possibility of playing.

“I’ll see,” he said. “I will talk to the coaches and then move on. But like I said, today was the best thing I did and it felt good.”

“Nobody wants to miss a game. If I feel like I can be there, then I will.”

*The Giants have listed three players as questionable – cornerbacks Adoree' Jackson and Dru Phillips with calf injuries and linebacker Matt Adams (quad), who is on injured reserve but should return this week.
