Davante Adams points to a possible trade target with Edgar Allan Poe-themed clues

Davante Adams points to a possible trade target with Edgar Allan Poe-themed clues

Earlier this week, Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams was reported to have requested a trade as his relationship with head coach Antonio Pierce becomes increasingly strained. Now Adams has decided not to say where he will end up and has dropped some Gothic-style hints on social media.

On Friday, Adams posted a photo of poet and author Edgar Allan Poe on his Instagram Story. A quote from Poe soon followed: “Believe nothing you hear and half of what you see.”

The quote comes from a short story called “The System of Doctor Tarr and Professor Fether,” about a man who visits a psychiatric hospital in the south of France. The story was published by Poe in 1845; It is unlikely that the content of the story is related to Adams' trading target plans.

Although it is impossible to know the exact intent behind these references, it is likely that Adams is hinting at a trade with the Baltimore Ravens, as the team is specifically named after one of Poe's most famous works: his poem “The Raven.” was published in 1845. Poe also died in Baltimore and was buried there.

The Ravens are one of several potential landing spots for the 32-year-old receiver. Adams was reportedly most interested in joining either the New York Jets or New Orleans Saints due to his familiarity with those teams' quarterbacks.

Adams is currently questionable after suffering a hamstring injury last week, and he missed the Raiders' Week 4 win over the Cleveland Browns on Sunday. Given the injury and the fact that the trade is still pending, it is unlikely that Adams will play for the Raiders next Sunday when they face the Denver Broncos.
