Melania Trump on why the 2024 election is different

Melania Trump on why the 2024 election is different

Former first lady Melania Trump said the 2024 presidential election will be different from previous elections because the country is much more divided.

“We are dealing with a much greater danger,” she said on “Hannity” Wednesday. “And most importantly, we see what is going on in the world and what threats we face. And my husband, what he's been through in the last few months,” Melania continued, referring to the two attempted assassinations on former President Trump's life.

Would-be assassin Thomas Matthew Crooks fired several shots at the Republican presidential candidate during his rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, in July before being shot dead by a sniper.

A few months later, Ryan Wesley Routha 58-year-old from Hawaii, was seen by a Secret Service agent sticking a rifle out of the tree line near Trump's golf course in West Palm Beach. Since then, he has been accused, among other things, of attempting to murder a presidential candidate.

Melania told Fox News host Sean Hannity that people need to learn to listen to each other and respect differences of opinion again.

“I think we have to – we have different perspectives, we have different beliefs. We must respect our freedom of expression and our individuality. I think it's very important that ideas are heard, that we communicate in a very, very straightforward way and we share the idea with the debate,” said the former first lady.

“Because I think that we could have innovation and success in this country. I think it's a disturbing business in this country that we fire people who don't agree on certain issues.”

Melania admitted that the election cycle is a long and tiring process, especially in the weeks and days leading up to November, but she is “in it” and trying to “enjoy” it as much as she can.

“You have to be very focused and push yourself day by day. There are surprises too, so it is very important to prepare for those surprises,” she said, adding that it was her calmness that got her through election day itself.

“Maybe that’s my personality. And because I know that on election day everything is in the hands of the people. The people decide what they want for this country, and that will be on November 5th again this year.”
