John Amos' daughter Shannon says she found out about his death “through the media.”

John Amos' daughter Shannon Amos said she, like the rest of the world, learned of her father's death “through the media.”

“I'm at a loss for words… Our family received the heartbreaking news that my father, John Allen Amos Jr., transitioned on August 21st,” she wrote on Instagram alongside a touching video of herself singing “Good Times” actor dances.

“We are devastated and have many questions about how this happened 45 days ago, as we learned about it through the media like so many of you,” she added.

Shannon said that while this should be a time to “honor and celebrate” John's life, she is “struggling to deal with the wave of emotions and uncertainties” that his death brings.

“Still, there is some semblance of peace in knowing my father is finally free. My family and I really appreciate the outpouring of love, calls and text messages. Please continue to keep our family in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you very much,” she concluded.

On Monday, John's son Kelly Christopher Amos announced in a statement that his father died of natural causes on August 21. He was 84.

“It is with deep sadness that I inform you that my father has made the transition,” Kelly said in a statement.

“He was a man with the kindest heart and a heart of gold… and he was loved around the world. Many fans consider him to be their TV father. He lived a good life. His legacy will live on in his outstanding work as an actor on television and film.”

Kelly said his father “loved acting his whole life… most recently in 'Suits LA,' where he played himself, and in our documentary 'America's Dad,' about his journey as an actor.”

He concluded: “He was my father, my best friend and my hero. Thank you for your prayers and support during this time.”

The drama between Kelly and Shannon – who John shared with his first ex-wife Noel Mickelson – has been unfolding in public since 2023.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the siblings publicly clashed last year over the Coming to America star's care and his legacy.

Shannon publicly accused her brother of elder abuse, which Kelly denied.

The film producer told the outlet that she provided extensive documentation to law enforcement in Colorado and New Jersey to investigate her claims of Kelly's elder abuse.

She claimed that over time her brother had “consolidated authority over their father and his affairs” and isolated him from members of his inner circle.
