LAFAYETTE, Louisiana – Makhi Hughes led a solid Tulane running game with 166 yards and a touchdown, and the Green Wave earned a 41-33 victory over Louisiana Lafayette on Saturday thanks to two special teams touchdowns.

Jack Tchienchou gave Tulane (2-2) its first lead with a 38-yard pick-6. He ran down the right sideline and dove into the end zone for a 17-10 lead with less than two minutes left in the first half. Rayhawn Pleasant took the kickoff to open the second half and ran 94 yards to the goal.

The Ragin' Cajuns (2-1) struck back on their ensuing drive when Bill Davis rushed up the middle and went 73 yards to the Tulane 2-yard line and two plays later Ben Wooldridge completed a pass to Caden Jensen for the TD, bringing them within 24-19.

Tulane held on to the lead, but the game was not decided until Ethan Head kicked a 38-yard field goal with 5:42 left for an 8-point lead and Jean Geiger intercepted a pass at the Tulane 21-yard line in the final minute.

Darian Mensah threw for just 83 yards, but his 33-yard touchdown to Reggie Brown and Hughes' 1-yard touchdown in the third quarter helped Tulane take the lead as the teams combined for 34 points.

Tulane ran for 272 yards.

Wooldridge completed 19 of 38 passes for Louisiana, scoring two touchdowns and two interceptions. He also scored two touchdowns. Bill Davis rushed for 103 yards on nine carries.
