World reacts to Iran's missile attacks on Israel | Israel attacks Lebanon news

Iran has said it fired dozens of ballistic missiles at key military and security targets in Israel in response to the killings of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah and Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) commander Abbas Nilforoushan .

Iran's Revolutionary Guard said Israel would face “devastating” attacks if it responded to the rocket fire.

The Israeli military said a “large number” of rockets were intercepted.

Speaking to reporters, Israeli army spokesman Daniel Hagari said the attack was serious and would have consequences “in a timely manner.”

Tensions between Israel and Iran have increased since Israel launched an attack on Gaza last October in response to a Hamas-led attack on Israel.

This is how the world reacted to Iran's missile attacks on Israel:

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran's supreme leader

Khamenei quoted verses from the Koran and appeared to predict an “imminent divine victory.”

In two separate posts on

“They are the winners on the ground,” he said in a video showing footage of Iranian missiles being fired.

Masoud Pezeshkian, President of Iran

In a social media post, Pezeshkian said that this attack was “to defend the interests and citizens of Iran.”

“Let Netanyahu know that Iran is not a belligerent state but stands firm against any threat. This is only part of our power. Don’t get involved in a conflict with Iran.”

Hamas

The Palestinian group Hamas praised the Iranian rocket attacks.

“We congratulate the heroic missile launches carried out by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps across large parts of our occupied territories in response to the occupation's ongoing crimes against the peoples of the region and in retaliation for the blood of our nation's heroic deeds. “Martyrs” said the group.

Mohammed Abdulsalam, spokesman for the Yemeni Houthis

Abdulsalam welcomed the Iranian military operation, which he said shows support for Palestine and challenges Israel's hegemony in the region.

“Deterring and confronting the Zionist entity is the only way to bring it under control and prevent it from escalating its barbaric crime against the Lebanese and Palestinian people and the rest of the region,” he said in a social media post .

Iraqi Resistance Coordination Committee

The group, made up of Iranian-backed Iraqi armed groups, said US bases in Iraq would be attacked if Washington decided to support Israel in an attack on Iran.

“If the Americans intervene in any hostile action against the Islamic Republic or if the Zionist enemy uses Iraqi airspace to carry out bombing raids on its territory, then all American bases and interests in Iraq and the region will be our target,” it said group said on the Telegram messaging app.

Benjamin Netanyahu, Israeli Prime Minister

Netanyahu vowed retaliation and said Iran would “pay” for its actions.

“Iran made a big mistake tonight – and it will pay for it,” he said at the start of a meeting on political security.

“The regime in Iran does not understand our determination to defend ourselves and our determination to take revenge on our enemies.

“We will stick to the principle that we have established: whoever attacks us, we will attack them. This applies in every region where we fight against the axis of evil, and it also applies to Iran.”

Danny Danon, Israel's representative to the United Nations

In a post on X, Danon said Israel was “defensively and offensively ready and prepared.”

“We will take all necessary measures to protect the citizens of Israel,” he wrote. “As we have previously made clear to the international community, any enemy that attacks Israel must expect a harsh response.”

Israel Katz, Israeli Foreign Minister

Katz said that “the Ayatollah regime has crossed the red line.”

“The State of Israel will not remain silent in the face of Iran’s brutal attack on our citizens.”

Bezalel Smotrich, Israeli Finance Minister

Smotrich said: “Like Gaza, Hezbollah and the state of Lebanon, Iran will regret this moment.”

Benny Gantz, Israeli opposition MP

“Tonight's attack, despite the US warning, must be met not only with a forceful Israeli response, but also with a larger, coordinated regional response,” Gantz said.

Antonio Guterres, Secretary General of the United Nations

Guterres condemned the “expansion of the Middle East conflict with escalation after escalation” and again called for a ceasefire.

“This has to stop,” he said in a post on X.

Jake Sullivan, US National Security Advisor

Iran's missile attack on Israel was “depressed and ineffective,” the White House said, warning that Tehran would face serious consequences for the attacks.

“Based on what we know at this point, this attack appears to have been repelled and ineffective,” Jake Sullivan, U.S. President Joe Biden’s national security adviser, told reporters.

Antony Blinken, US Secretary of State

The Iranian missile attack on Israel was “totally unacceptable” and should be condemned by the entire world, Blinken told reporters.

“Initial reports indicate that Israel, with the active support of the United States and other partners, effectively repelled this attack,” he added.

Keir Starmer, British Prime Minister

Starmer “strongly condemned” Iran’s ballistic missile attack on Israel, his office said.

During a phone call with his Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu, Starmer also “expressed Britain's unwavering commitment to Israeli security and the protection of civilians,” according to a readout of the call from Starmer's office.

Charles Michel, President of the European Council

The EU Council chief condemned the Iranian attack on Israel, saying it was “a threat to regional security.”

“The deadly spiral of escalation in the Middle East must be stopped now. “A regional war is in no one’s interest,” he said in a post on X.

Pedro Sanchez, Spanish Prime Minister and Jose Manuel Albares, Spanish Foreign Minister

Sanchez condemned Iran's attack on Israel and called for an end to the “spiral of violence” plaguing the Middle East, while the foreign minister called for “restraint.”

“The Spanish government condemns Iran’s attack on Israel and calls for an end to the spiral of violence,” Sanchez posted, showing restraint and not escalation.”

Gaza

Footage posted online showed people in the besieged and bombed Gaza Strip using their cell phones to take pictures of the rockets overhead and also break out in celebration.

For nearly a year, relentless Israeli attacks on Gaza have killed more than 41,600 people and injured nearly 100,000, according to Palestinian authorities, with thousands still missing under the rubble of destroyed buildings.

Beirut

Al Jazeera's Dorsa Jabbari reported from Beirut and said people celebrated the Iranian attack in the Lebanese capital.

“We have been hearing it since news of the Iranian attack on Israel broke. Gunshots and fireworks are being fired continuously across the capital,” she said.

“Hezbollah supporters celebrate Iran’s second attack in the country’s history since the 1979 revolution.”
