French club Brest continued their perfect start to the Champions League with a fantastic win at Red Bull Salzburg.

The Champions League newcomer defeated his opponents in a skilful away performance and scored the first goal in the 24th minute through Abdallah Sima's calm counterattack.

After absorbing plenty of Salzburg's pressure, Brest doubled their lead with their second shot on goal in the 66th minute when Mahdi Camara caught a loose ball and fired into the far corner.

Four minutes later, Sima, who is on a season-long loan at Brest from Brighton and also played for Rangers, scored his side's third goal, curling in a rebound after Salzburg keeper Janis Blaswich failed to convincingly block Hugo Magnetti's shot.

Seconds after coming on, substitute Mathias Pereira Lage rounded off the scoring with a shot into the bottom corner with 15 minutes left.

Brest, which started playing at amateur level just over 20 years ago and has never won a major domestic trophy, finished third in Ligue 1 last season, qualifying for Europe for the first time, but is languishing after six games this season 13th place.

In September they beat Sturm Graz 2-1 in their first ever Champions League game.

Salzburg remains winless in the Champions League league phase after losing 3-0 in its opening game against Sparta Prague.

A goal by the Austrian team was ruled out when the score was 0-0 after English referee Anthony Taylor consulted his pitchside monitor and had a video assistant referee (VAR) checked.

Brest defender Julien le Cardinal nodded a header towards his own net from a corner before Salzburg's Samson Baidoo knocked the ball in, but teammate Lucas Gourna-Douath blocked the view of Brest goalkeeper Marco Bizot in an offside position.
