Pollster Frank Luntz: Nevada and Pennsylvania will still be too close to call tomorrow

Record-breaking voter turnout could be good news for Trump, says pollster Frank Luntz

Pollster and political strategist Frank Luntz said on CNBC's “Squawk Box” this morning that he believes Pennsylvania and Nevada are too close to call Wednesday morning and that the general public won't know the presidential election results until “either on.” late Friday or early Saturday”. “

“If Trump loses either (Georgia and North Carolina), it will be a Harris victory. If Trump wins either Pennsylvania or Michigan, it will be a Trump victory,” Luntz said.

Other metrics that Luntz is “watching closely” include the Latino vote in Nevada and Arizona, whether conservative older women are voting slightly more for Harris than they would normally for a Democratic candidate, and younger women “are more for Harris than any other democratic group.” ,” and whether or not there will be record-breaking voter turnout in today’s polls, which would be “good news for Trump.”

Harris and Trump shared the midnight race in Dixville Notch, an unincorporated community in a small New Hampshire community that has six registered voters this year.

Three of those voters chose Harris and the other three chose Trump. Polls opened at midnight and closed at 12:07 a.m. ET

Since 1960, Dixville Notch voters have followed the tradition of casting their votes in person in a wooden box just after midnight before results are announced minutes later.

Although the Dixville Notch result is not a predictive measure, the tradition has been the catalyst for Election Day events for revelers for decades.

This year, the tie between Harris and Trump reflects the dead heat that polls have reported in recent months. In 2020, President Biden received all five Dixville-Notch votes cast before winning the overall race.

More than 77 million voted early

More than 77 million Americans have already cast their votes by mail or in person, according to NBC News' early voting tally.

That's far fewer than in 2020, when more than 100 million Americans voted early. But those results came in the midst of the deadly Covid-19 pandemic, when many Americans were avoiding public gatherings and states had greatly expanded mail-in and early voting rules.

Trump criticized early voting in 2020 – a stance that may have helped President Joe Biden win several key swing states.

While Trump is at times nostalgic about one-day voting in the 2024 cycle, both his campaign and Harris' campaign have largely encouraged their supporters to vote as soon as possible.

NBC data provided by TargetSmart shows Democrats slightly outstripping Republicans in the primary vote, 41% to 39%.

Among the seven key battleground states, three states – Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin – appear to have more registered Democrats voting early, while registered Republicans are leading in Arizona, Nevada, North Carolina and Georgia.

What all this means for the end result is far from clear.

While early voting numbers are often seen as a signal of certain voters' enthusiasm or expected turnout, it's hard to predict how many more voters will show up on Tuesday. It is also difficult to know in advance whether a party's share of early votes will “cannibalize” its turnout on Election Day.

An NBC analysis found that among first-time voters in 2024 who did not vote in 2020, Democrats in Pennsylvania outnumber Republicans and female Democrats represent the largest group of new voters in the state.

In Arizona, however, there were more Republican new voters than Democrats, with male Republicans leading the way.

After storming Pennsylvania on Monday, Harris' schedule for Election Day is relatively sparse — at least for now.

The only item on her agenda is an election night party at Howard University, her alma mater in Washington, DC

The campaign will hold an event in The Yard, the main square on campus.

Walz and his wife Gwen Walz will also attend a political event in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, NBC News reported.
