2024 Election Live Updates: Illinois Democrats' Optimistic Swing State Efforts Will 'Make a Difference'

As the who's who of Illinois Democrats held a press conference at Manny's Deli on Tuesday afternoon, their eyes were everywhere but Illinois.

“We care about ourselves, but we absolutely want to help our neighbors,” said Lisa Hernandez, chairwoman of the Illinois Democratic Party.

She said she believes Democrats will not only maintain but expand their supermajority in the House of Representatives, and praised the Democratic National Convention for building a strong volunteer base.

Democrats worked hard to get the vote. Sen. Dick Durbin noted that Sen. Tammy Duckworth, who was absent, had been traveling with the Harris campaign in the lead-up to the election, speaking to veterans groups across the country.

Likewise, Attorney General Kwame Raoul recently made a stop in Florida and Durbin, Michigan.

“The strength and support of Illinois Democrats in Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania will make the difference,” Durbin said.

The group shared a mix of cautious optimism from Cook County President Toni Preckwinkle and predictions of a landslide victory for Harris from Rep. Jonathan Jackson. Still, everyone agreed that Illinois would not decide the presidential nomination.

Illinois Democrats will hold a news conference at Manny's Deli, 1141 S. Jefferson St., on Tuesday.
