2 studs and 2 duds from the Grizzlies' 2-2 start

2 studs and 2 duds from the Grizzlies' 2-2 start

Through four games, the Grizzlies have created a lot of excitement with their style of play, while also suffering lulls at the wrong times in their games so far. The strength of the team has been a saving grace as injuries have mounted on the bench, laying the foundation for what the rest of the season could look like once everyone is back to full health.

As the team looks to continue to develop chemistry with its rotating roster, here's what it did well and what it needs to improve on as the young season progresses.

As of October 29, the Grizzlies lead the NBA in assists per game with 31.8, led by Scotty Pippen Jr. at 8.3 and followed by Ja Morant at 7.3 (both in the top seven). The Grizzlies' new offensive system is based on constantly increasing the tempo and finding the open man, something the team has done brilliantly through four games.

Additionally, the team has improved the turnover problem it had in the preseason. After committing more than 20 turnovers in four of its five preseason games, the team ranks 14th in the NBA with an average of 15 turnovers per game so far in the regular season.

The Grizzlies have scored no fewer than 63 points in the first half of their four games played. The team averaged 65.75 points per game in the first half and had a double-digit lead in offense at the start of games in each first half. The team also ranks third in the NBA with a pace of 105.21, behind only the New Orleans Pelicans and Chicago Bulls.

As impressive as the Grizzlies were in the first half of games, they were unimpressive in the second half, especially the third quarter. The Grizzlies are -49 in the third quarter in four games, with the Houston Rockets going on a 17-0 run in the third quarter of those games and the Orlando Magic going on a 21-0 run in the third quarter of those games.

The third quarter has been the team's kryptonite since last season. The 37.25 points per third they are allowing needs to improve as the team has been very sloppy in the third quarter so far this season.

As previously mentioned, the Grizzlies led by double digits in all four games this season. Their shortest lead was against the Houston Rockets (12) and their largest was against the Orlando Magic (29). In each game, they either allowed their opponent to come back to take the lead and win, or cut the game down to single digits.

The team currently has a good chance of being 4:0 or at least 3:1. The high tempo they play gives opponents a chance to make a run, but the Grizzlies have to sustain it when it happens, especially in the third quarter.
